Islamabad, May 10 /Sin Hua/ — At least 12 policemen were killed and several others injured after a suicide bomber rammed a police station with a vehicle loaded with explosives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwest Pakistan, officials reported on Sunday.

The incident occurred in the Bannu district on Saturday at 20:55 local time /15:55 GMT/. The police station was completely destroyed, sources told the Xinhua agency on condition of anonymity.

Rescue teams, with the support of heavy machinery, continue to clear debris. Authorities fear that bodies of the deceased may still be buried under the rubble.

According to the sappers’ assessments, between 1200 and 1500 kg of explosives were used during the attack, added the sources.

The militant group known as “Itti ad-Da al-Mujahidin Pakistan” /IMP/ has taken responsibility for the explosion.

Several attacks by militants have occurred in recent months in the northwestern regions of the country bordering Afghanistan, specifically targeting security service personnel and law enforcement agencies. –0–
