London, May 10 /Sin Hua/ — An unknown projectile hit a cargo ship near the coast of Qatar in the Persian Gulf, causing a small fire which was extinguished. This was reported on Sunday by the Maritime Trade Operations Coordination Center under the UK Ministry of Defence /UKMTO/.

The incident occurred approximately 23 nautical miles / 42.6 km / northeast of Doha in the Persian Gulf. According to UKMTO data, no reports of casualties or environmental damage have been received.

The incident occurred against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the Persian Gulf. Several attacks on ships have been recorded in the region over the past week.

On Friday, the USA struck two Iranian oil tankers, accusing them of attempting to break the American blockade.

In response, the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned on Saturday that any “aggression” against Iranian oil tankers and commercial vessels will entail a massive attack on one of the US military centers in the region and the “enemy” ships.
