Moscow, May 10 /Xin Hua/ — On May 9, a solemn military parade was held on Red Square in Moscow to mark the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Along with citizens and Russian veterans, correspondents of the Xin Hua news agency also became witnesses to this annual celebration and learned what Victory Day means.
CARE ABOUT HEARING
Speaking at the military parade, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that it was the Soviet people who made a decisive contribution to the defeat of Nazism, saved their country, and saved the world. “And the pledge of success is our moral, ethical strength, courage and valor, our unity and ability to withstand everything, to overcome any trials!” said V. Putin.
World War II claimed the lives of 27 million Soviet citizens. People died in battles, were tortured in occupation and captivity, died of hunger in the blockade of Leningrad, in other besieged cities and towns. Among the fallen were sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, grandfathers, great-grandfathers, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, and friends.
“My grandfathers also took part in the war. This great victory belongs to all of us,” said correspondent Sin Ya, a Muscovite named Elena, who came to Red Square on this extraordinary day with her daughter.
Nothing is forgotten, nothing is lost. Recently, correspondents from Sin Yua in Irkutsk saw how boys and girls from a kindergarten, accompanied by their caregivers, came to the eternal flame on the square next to the regional government building and sang the song “Katyusha.”
GENERAL MEMORY
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, over 800 citizens of China and Russia took part on Saturday in the patriotic event “Immortal Regiment” in Beijing on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. As per tradition, the procession was led by the Ambassador of Russia to Beijing. A long column, to the sounds of music from the times of the Great Patriotic War, marched from the square in front of the central building of the diplomatic mission along the designated route.
The global anti-fascist war testified to the brotherhood in arms, mutual assistance, and support between the peoples of China and Russia. In the most difficult years of the war against the Japanese aggressors, Soviet pilots came to the aid of the Chinese people. Many of them defended their military glory at the cost of their lives, leaving heroic traces in the skies above Chinese cities such as Nanjing, Wuhan, and Chongqing. At the most dangerous moment of the Great Patriotic War, the ‘Eastern Richard Sorge’—the famous intelligence officer of the Communist Party of China, Yan Bao’an—timely transmitted valuable reconnaissance information to the Soviet leadership. In the fiery years, large-scale deliveries of Soviet weapons to China and the reverse flows of extremely demanded goods in the USSR ensured a transborder “artery of life,” laid through the “dead” desert by the joint efforts of two countries and played a significant role in mutual support in the fight against the fascists.
How the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov filled during the Victory Day memorial meeting: the republic sent more than 360 thousand men and women to the war, or “every fourth inhabitant of the country”.
“The joint struggle of many countries that joined the fight against fascism helped to defeat fascism; this must always be remembered,” said Sin Shui Colonel Denis Stepanov, who for the second time appeared on Red Square on Victory Day.
THE YEAR OF THE PROMISE IN THE NAME OF THE FUTURE
“It is important to harshly suppress attempts to falsify the events of the Second World War, the heroization of Nazis and collaborators. The unbearable suffering and death of millions of peaceful inhabitants rested on conscience. Our duty is to prevent justification of the genocide of Soviet citizens and other atrocities by Nazi criminals,” said V. Putin, speaking at a solemn reception in honor of Victory Day.
The International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg and the International Military Tribunal for the Far East nailed the war criminals to the ignominious pillory of history forever. These two just verdicts, their historical value and epochal significance, are not subject to revision! Attempts to distort historical facts about the Second World War and deny its results, to discredit the historical feats of China and the Soviet Union are doomed to failure!
“There is no future without our past. We must remember our past,” said correspondent Sin Yua volunteer Anna Velyugina. –0–
