A man is before the courts today following an alleged burglary in Māngere last night.

Police were called to Walmsley Road at around 9.40pm to a report of burglary at a residential address.

Counties Manukau West Area Response Manager, Senior Sergeant Steve Albrey, says an occupant encountered the offender in their kitchen.

“The man was allegedly eating food from the home while packing property into his backpack.

“When confronted by the occupant, a psychical altercation ensued.”

The offender then fled the scene

Police units were dispatched, including Eagle, which watched from above as the suspect ran through neighbouring properties and jumped fences.

“Eagle guided officers on the ground to the man’s location on Hall Avenue, where he was arrested,” Senior Sergeant Albrey says.

A 22-year-old man has been charged with two counts of burglary, resisting Police, male assaults female, assaults child, indecent assault, and wilful damage.

He will appear in Manukau District Court today.
