The European Commission will hold a high-level conference in Brussels, following the completion of the evaluation of Regulation (EU) 2016/429 on transmissible animal diseases, the Animal Health Law.

Wednesday 8 July 2026, 09:30 – 17:00 (CEST)

Practical information

The event will mark 10 years since the entry into force of the Animal Health Law and 5 years since its application across the European Union.

It will bring together policymakers, veterinary authorities, scientists, international organisations and stakeholders, from EU Member States, European Economic Area countries, non-EU countries including candidate countries, the European Parliament, the Council, European Commission Directorates-General and Agencies.

Since its adoption in 2016, the Animal Health Law has provided the EU with a modern, harmonised and risk-based framework for the prevention and control of transmissible animal diseases.

The conference will present the main findings and conclusions of the Commission evaluation and the supporting study. It will also provide an opportunity to discuss implementation experience, achievements and remaining challenges in the context of increasing animal health pressure and evolving preparedness needs.

The programme will combine policy discussions, scientific and stakeholder perspectives, interactive audience participation and forward-looking exchanges on preparedness, resilience and future EU animal health policy.

Participation is subject to prior registration.

Please register for the event by 3 July 2026.
