Almost a decade since the Commission made its proposal, the EU co-legislators have provisionally agreed to reform social security rules. The proposed revised rules seek to coordinate access to social security for those who live or work in another EU country, and better distribute responsibility for payment among the Member States involved.
Provisions on unemployment benefits, family and long-term care benefits have been strengthened, and the rules regarding cross-border workers and posted workers adapted. The file is scheduled for a first-reading vote during the July plenary session.
