This fact sheet explains the EU’s approach to occupational health and safety at work. Since the 1980s, the EU has prioritised improving working conditions through legislation that sets minimum standards while allowing Member States to maintain or introduce more stringent measures. Health and safety at work is also a central element of the European Pillar of Social Rights action plan.
