Artificial intelligence (AI) is not a harmless technology: it can be misused by users to create illegal content. One major concern is the creation and dissemination of online child sexual abuse deepfakes. Recent reports have shown a significant increase in AI-generated child sexual abuse material (CSAM), raising questions about how to stop it.
A new provision in the EU AI Act will forbid the generation of CSAM from 2 December 2026. •
