Providing a sufficient volume of critical raw materials (CRMs) to European industry is a precondition for improving competitiveness, facilitating green transition of the economy and enhancing strategic autonomy.
The EU adopted the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA), in force since 23 May 2024, which established benchmarks for increasing the EU′s self-sufficiency in producing CRMs throughout the different steps of the supply chain, from extraction to processing, to recycling.
In addition, the EU aims to diversify its import sources of CRMs to decrease external dependencies.
Despite List of CRMs and SRMs difficulties in finding comprehensive, up-to date and complete datasets covering 34 CRMs across the entire value chain, this infographic aims to provide a static snapshot of the main producers of raw materials, focusing on those in the extraction and processing stages of the supply chain.
It also analyses the EU import structure for both extracted and processed CRMs to reveal the geographical diversity of their supply. Finally, it provides a short overview of additional EU actions to mitigate supply risks.
