HaDEA has published a call for proposals to support stakeholders in implementing food waste prevention actions in 2026-2027.
EU countries are required to meet food waste reduction targets by 2030, as set out in the 2025 amendment of the Waste Framework Directive. Specifically, the aim is to reduce food waste at national level by 10% in processing and manufacturing, and by 30% (per capita) jointly in retail and consumption, including restaurants, food services and households.
This call for proposals offers grant beneficiaries the opportunity to support EU countries in their efforts to meet these goals, by contributing to actions that include processing, reprocessing and valorising side streams from food production or surpluses into new food products and by developing solutions that can help consumers prevent food waste in their homes.
The objectives include:
• Assisting stakeholders in implementing effective food waste prevention initiatives within their operations and organisations, or throughout the food supply chain, including consumer-targeted actions;
• Fostering collaboration across different sectors in the food supply chain, including producers, manufactures/processors, wholesalers, retailers and innovators, to accelerate the uptake of food waste prevention and valorisation practices;
• Supporting food banks and other redistribution organisations in the reprocessing and/or valorisation of surplus foods recovered from commercial food business operators, as well as supporting their redistribution and storage practices.
The European Commission is particularly looking for solutions and technologies that are ready for implementation, in close-to-market conditions, at industrial or commercial scale, during the duration of the project.
Total budget: € 4 000 000.
Interested parties are invited to send in their application by 15 October 2026, 17:00 (CEST).
