Moscow, May 10 /Xinhua/ — The interaction between Russia and China is the most important factor in the stabilization of international relations, a factor of restraint and stability. This was stated by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, answering journalists’ questions.
“We have almost no agreements left that regulate the sphere of security, disarmament, and control over nuclear weapons. And interaction between such states as China and Russia is undoubtedly a factor of restraint and stability,” said V. Putin. Naming China as Russia’s largest trade and economic partner, the president of the Russian Federation emphasized that “over 140 billion dollars is a decent turnover, and it is growing.” Diversification of turnover continues through high-tech industries, which is very important, he added.
Speaking about the military parade held in honor of the 81st anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War, V.Putin noted that “we decided that we will definitely hold festive events, but without demonstrating military equipment, not only for security reasons, but above all because the Armed Forces must focus their attention on the final defeat of the enemy within the framework of the special military operation.” He added that the Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet reported on provocations from the Ukrainian side during the festive events for Victory Day, this will be done a little later after the completion of the entire program.
Commenting on the initiative of U.S. President D. Trump regarding the exchange of prisoners of war, V. Putin said that Moscow had already on May 5 handed over to the Ukrainian side a proposal for the exchange and sent to Ukraine a list of 500 Ukrainian servicemen staying in Russia. No proposals from Kiev regarding the exchange of prisoners have been received by Moscow so far.
V. Putin noted that he does not propose a meeting with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, but at the same time does not refuse it: “Whoever wants to meet, let them come to Moscow.” The Russian leader also allowed for the possibility of a meeting on the territory of a third country, but on the condition of reaching final agreements on a peace treaty. According to him, the US sincerely strives to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, but this matter primarily depends on the two countries.
“I think the matter is coming to a conclusion /of the Ukrainian conflict/,” he noted, drawing attention to the fact that Western politicians “have begun to escalate the confrontation with Russia.” “The question arises, why? Firstly, they expected a crushing defeat of Russia, we know well, the collapse of statehood within several months,” the head of state explained.
“And then we’ve already gotten stuck in this rut, and there’s no way to get out of it, that is the problem. Although there are smart people, unquestionably, there are some. There are also those who undoubtedly understand the essence of the ongoing events. I hope that these political forces will gradually return to power or that the power will be taken into their hands with the support of the overwhelming majority of European countries,” added the president.
V. Putin noted that the conflict around Iran puts Moscow in a difficult position due to relations both with Tehran and with other countries of the Persian Gulf. He stated that in the event of an escalation of the situation, “everyone will be a loser,” and expressed the opinion that agreements on resolving the conflict must be reached in the interest of all countries in the region. According to him, IAEA inspectors have found no evidence of Iran having a nuclear weapons program. The Russian side still maintains its proposals for the export of Iranian enriched uranium, considering Tehran’s lack of aspiration for nuclear weapons. However, Moscow is not trying to “inflate political tensions” in this way and will accept either agreement or refusal of its assistance; this is merely Russia’s effort to make its feasible contribution to the settlement and easing of the situation, said the RF president.
