Minsk, May 11 /Xin Hua/ — On Sunday, Belarus celebrated State Flag, State Emblem, and State Anthem Day. On this day, solemn rallies and festive events took place throughout the country.
A ritual honoring state symbols took place at the State Flag Square in Minsk. Representatives of the government, ministries, departments, and the country’s labor collectives took part in it. At the event, the Prime Minister of Belarus, Alexander Turchin, voiced congratulations from the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko. The greeting mentioned that the triad of state symbols, chosen by the people, reflects the experience and traditions, the complex historical path of independent and sovereign Belarus, its beauty and uniqueness.
On this day in Minsk, a march with the largest flag of Belarus also took place. The flag was 500 meters long and 9 meters wide. The march was organized from the “Minsk – Hero City” stele to the State Flag Square. About 800 people carried the banner along the Prospekt Pobeditelyey, including cultural figures, athletes, and representatives of labor collectives from various sectors. Similar events were held in all regional centers of the country.
The Day of the State Flag, State Emblem, and State Anthem of Belarus was established by the decree of the President of the country No. 157 dated March 26, 1998, and is celebrated annually on the second Sunday of May. In accordance with Article 19 of the Constitution of Belarus, the country’s symbols as a sovereign state are the flag, emblem, and anthem. They embody the historical memory of the country and are the most important attributes of sovereignty and independence.
